Like animation in the flesh, the internationally acclaimed, Los Angeles-based osseus labyrint astonishes audiences with their shape-shifting virtuosity, morphing their naked, hairless bodies into an array of forms that are at once organic, alien, machine and other. Under the direction of Hannah Sim and Mark Steger, this laboratory of random mutations has appeared in both unexpected and traditional performance environments. Whether dangling from a bridge over the L.A. River, teetering aloft in treetop constructions or submerged in a Victorian-era swimming pool, osseus labyrint has been lauded for its creations in which the natural, the artifactual and the paranormal converge. They have appeared at the alternative Coachella music festival, and have been singled out by the Los Angeles Times, the LA Weekly and other media outlets for their Kafkaesque daring, bizarre beauty and extraordinary imagination.
In their new work, osseus labyrint conspires with electro-mechanical installation artist Barry Schwartz, (a.k.a. Dr. Pank), whose work utilizes reclaimed technological refuse, chemically reactive agents and high-voltage electricity. Modern Prometheus, LLC depicts the corporate launch of a new life form and imagines the first attempt by a species to acquire control of its own evolution through artificial selection.
