Evelyn Glennie
"Evelyn Glennie is simply a phenomenon of a performer." —The New York Times
Scotland-born Evelyn Glennie is the first person in musical history to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist. Despite her deafness, the Grammy award-winning Glennie has become one of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today, constantly redefining the goals and expectations of percussion, and single-handedly expanding the repertoire with numerous commissions (more than 140 new works to date). In addition to performances with most of the major European and American classical orchestras, she has worked with the Kodo Japanese drummers, virtuoso banjo player Bela Fleck, Icelandic pop diva Björk, Bobby McFerrin, Sting, Emmanuel Ax, the King’s Singers, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to name a few. Legendary for her spectacular live performances characterized by dazzling showmanship and musical adventurousness, this consummate musician makes her highly anticipated return to UCLA Live for the first time in ten years.
