HELLO EVERYBODY!
And welcome to a brand new season for UCLA Live.
Without wishing to sound TOO smug, I think it’s fair to say that what
you have in your hands is the finest season we (and possibly anyone else!)
have ever put together. Within these pages you will find an unparalleled
selection of the finest artists on the planet—the most accomplished, celebrated,
renowned, original and generally fabulous artists from every area of the
performing arts.
We start with our Sixth International Theatre
Festival, which marks the U.S. debut for the National
Theatre of Scotland with the extraordinary Black Watch (kicking-off
a year in which the discussion of contemporary political issues will be
a recurring theme). This is swiftly followed by the exclusive West Coast
engagement of the Royal Shakespeare Company
with the great Sir Ian McKellen—we are obviously thrilled and delighted
to have them in the festival.
And in every other field in the performing arts you’ll discover the world’s
greatest
artists: from Pina Bausch to Nina Ananiashvili, Ornette Coleman to Angélique
Kidjo, Richard Thompson to Yo-Yo Ma, and Deborah Voigt to Stephen Sondheim.
All of us here at UCLA Live know that this is only possible with support
from our
community. We owe our donors and members a huge debt of thanks. If you
currently contribute to UCLA Live—thank you! If you don’t—please
consider making a gift.
So it is with enormous pride I give you the new season. Read on, enjoy,
book tickets, join...and we’ll see you here!
